Society History and Activities

The Society of Korean Oral Literature is an academic society researching Korean tales, folk songs, shamanic songs, p'ansori, folk drama, proverbs, and riddles from a literary point of view. Below is a brief introduction to the history of the Society of Korean Oral Literature.


1992.6 - Formed unofficial research society
Met four times and presented fourteen papers until May of 1993
1993.8.17 - Official founding of 'The Society of Korean Oral Literature'. Total members: 34
Established society bylaws and inaugurated Prof. Seo Dae-Seok (Seoul National Univ.) as first chairman
1995.8.17 - Inaugurated Prof. Seo Dae-Seok as second chairman
1997.2.12 - Inaugurated Prof. Cho Hui-Ung (Kookmin Univ.) as third chairman
From 1993.8 - Met twenty-two times and presented ninety-five papers
